HBEF Supports STEAM Programs in Hermosa Schools

Grades TK-3: Sparks Lab

Grades 4-6: Idea Lab

Grades 5-8: Tech Lab

We understand that STEAM programs in schools are essential for equipping students with a well-rounded education. They nurture critical thinking and creativity, prepare students for future careers, and address the demands of our ever-evolving world. That’s why HBEF provides funding for STEAM programs, so that all Hermosa students—from TK to 8th—are empowered to reach beyond conventional boundaries and embrace pioneering concepts, products, and solutions.

Sparks Lab gives our youngest students at View & Vista, a hands-on opportunity to engage in creative building activities, programming robots, and coding. Sparks Lab is always the best day of the school week.

Idea Lab allows Vista & Valley students to work collaboratively to tackle engineering design challenges, hack computers through circuit building, battle robots, and even design and 3D-print projects. STEAM 6 is a hands-on elective course that challenges students to come up with creative solutions to solve different challenges, using the engineering design process.

Tech Lab brings Valley students fun and challenging electives like Video Production 6/7, where they get to create a variety of videos like stop-motion and commercials, or STEAM 8, where they use the engineering design process to solve problems, through digital photography, robotics, coding, workshop, amd more!

Check out the following video to discover Hermosa schools’ approach to STEAM education, with Mr. Garrett Kaplan, who is responsible for the Idea Lab and STEAM middle school electives, and Ms. Malinda Gill, who oversees the Sparks Lab.

Through your continued support, HBEF can sustain and expand these programs, empowering our students to thrive academically and personally.
